Many companies are either publicly or privately working on new contrasting agents in hopes of replacing gadolinium for MRIs.
The hope is that a new agent could be developed in the future that would not have the negative side effect associated with mass use. The best type of contrasting agent would allow an individual with a variety of ailments and health problems to use the contrasting agent safely and without side effects.
This push for new contrasting agents came as individuals with liver problems developed severe reactions to gadolinium.
