Lantheus Medical Commends FDA Black Box Warning

by Administrator 7. October 2010 06:26
Lantheus Medical Imaging, Inc., a leader in diagnostic medical imaging, commended the United States Food and Drug Administration addition of a black box warning on all gadolinium-based contrast agents.

Lantheus released a statement supporting the FDA's attempt to highlight the rare, and potentially fatal, condition known as nephrogenic systemic fibrosis. The condition has been linked to gadolinium-based MRI contrast agents, specifically when administered to patients with kidney disease.

"We support the FDA for taking action to ensure the safe and appropriate use of gadolinium-based contrast agents," said Mrak Hibberd, M.D., Ph.D., senior medical director for Lantheus. "We agree with the changes put forth by the FDA. . . The revised language provides clearer guidance to healthcare professionals about the risk of gadolinium-based contrast agent-associated NSF in patients who are renally impaired."

If you have developed nephrogenic systemic fibrosis, you may be entitled to compensation. For more information, please contact the NSF Attorneys of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-761-3187.
