A small study was conducted where an MRI alternative method was used to detect myocardial ischemia. This alternative method did not possess the contrast agent, gadolinium. The increase in blood flow was detected in the 16 separate patients that participated in the study.
These results may be the basis for a new form of MRI scans that would be safe for individuals with kidney problems. A contrast-free cardial MRI would allow for patients with kidney problems to be able to undergo MRI scans.
Currently the contrast-free MRI has shown a strong MRI signal but it has yet to be determined if it could develop useful information to help doctors diagnose certain problem areas.
The contrast agent, gadolinium, has been linked to severe side effects, especially in patients with kidney disease. If gadolinium was used when you underwent an MRI and you developed a serious side effect, please contact the gadolinium lawyers of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-761-3187 today.
