How often does the FDA review gadolinium?

by Administrator 26. May 2010 02:08

The Food and Drug Administration regularly reviews drugs for various risk factors. These risk factors include harm to patients and adverse side effects.

At this time, the FDA has put a black box warning on gadolinium. The FDA may change its policy toward gadolinium depending on future reviews. These reviews often look at recent studies or other reports that relate to gadolinium.

GE safety team warned of Omniscan risks in 2006

by Administrator 21. May 2010 02:03

According to new information made public last month, GE healthcare had been notified by its own safety team of the risks that Omniscan poses to patients with kidney problems.

New information revealed in one of the Omniscan lawsuits brought against GE Healthcare reveals that the company's safety division had recommended that it restrict the use of Omniscan in May 2006. The company, however, did not heed the advice of its own experts and failed to take action to provide a warning label until September 2007.

Many patients were exposed to Omniscan from May 2006 to September 2007, and several have initiated lawsuits against GE Healthcare for injuries that they claim are a result of their exposure to gadolinium, a potentially toxic chemical used in Omniscan. Patients with kidney problems may not be able to filter gadolinium properly from their bodies, which is believed to lead to an increased risk of developing nephrogenic systemic fibrosis.

It is now clear that the company was aware of the possible risks associated with Omniscan, and was even warned by its own safety experts to take proactive action to limit the contrast agent's use.

If you or someone you love has been harmed by gadolinium exposure from an MRI contrast agent, you may have grounds to pursue legal action. Contact the gadolinium injury lawyers of Williams Kherkher today at 800-761-3187 to discuss your case.

How is gadolinium administered

by Administrator 14. May 2010 04:21

Gadolinium usually is injected into the circulatory system. The injection allows doctors to better diagnose the MRI scan.

After the MRI is administered, the gadolinium typically is filtered out of the body. However, for people with serious kidney problems, the gadolinium may filter out slowly or stay for a long period of time. The increased exposure to gadolinium may increase the chances of contracting Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis.

If you or anyone you know has suffered Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis after gadolinium exposure, contact the Gadolinium lawyers of Williams Kherkher at 800-761-3187.

Most expert witnesses to be allowed in Omniscan cases

by Administrator 7. May 2010 01:39
The U.S. District Judge ruled that many of the plaintiff's expert witnesses will be allowed to testify in upcoming Omniscan cases.

GE Healthcare and other makers of gadolinium agents are the defendants in about 500 lawsuits filed by NSF patients. Many of the lawsuits have been consolidated as part of a multidistric case.

Omniscan is one of a number of gadolinium contrast agents. These contrast agents have been used in MRI procedures and linked to a disease called nephrogenic systemic fibrosis.
