Positron Emission Mammography (PEM)
scanners are high resolution breast scanning systems that can
determine the location of lesions and tumors and well as distinguish between their
metabolic phases.
The PEM scanners are advantageous
over MRIs for those who cannot undergo MRI scans for reasons such as
claustrophobia, metallic implants, or adverse reactions to
gadolinium-based contrast agents. In addition, PEM scans have
significantly more precision in identifying malignant and benign
lesions than do MRI scans. Therefore, they reduce the overall number
of unnecessary biopsies used to identify suspicious lesions as
benign.
If you or a loved one is suffering
from a disease or condition caused by exposure to gadolinium-based
agents, contact the gadolinium
lawyers of Williams Kherkher at 800-761-3187.
