Are there any treatments for Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis?

by Administrator 30. March 2010 03:37

Currently there are no known treatments for nephrogenic systemic fibrosis. Cases of NSF are typically associated with patients who have severe liver diseases and may be caused by the use of gadolinium in MRI scans.

While there are no treatments, some doctors believe that improved renal function may slow NSF. At this time, possible treatments are still being tested.

If you or anyone you know has been exposed to gadolinium, contact the NSF lawyers of Williams Kherkher at 800-761-3187.

New scanners may offer an MRI alternative for breast biopsies

by Administrator 23. March 2010 03:16

Positron Emission Mammography (PEM)scanners are high resolution breast scanning systems that can determine the location of lesions and tumors and well as distinguish between theirmetabolic phases.

The PEM scanners are advantageousover MRIs for those who cannot undergo MRI scans for reasons such asclaustrophobia, metallic implants, or adverse reactions togadolinium-based contrast agents. In addition, PEM scans havesignificantly more precision in identifying malignant and benignlesions than do MRI scans. Therefore, they reduce the overall numberof unnecessary biopsies used to identify suspicious lesions asbenign.

If you or a loved one is sufferingfrom a disease or condition caused by exposure to gadolinium-basedagents, contact the gadolinium lawyers of Williams Kherkher at 800-761-3187.

Which patients are at risk for NSF?

by Administrator 9. March 2010 04:19

Some patients are more at risk than others of contracting nephrogenic systemic fibrosis. Patients who are most at risk include those with severe kidney problems, such as those who require transplants.

Another at risk group includes young children whose kidneys are not completely developed. For such at risk patients, doctors may be advised to be cautious in using gadolinium-based contrast agents because they may increase the chances of contracting NSF.

If you may have contracted NSF because of a gadolinium-based contrast agent, contact the gadolinium lawyers of Williams Kherkher at 800-761-3187.

Are other contrast agents approved for MRI use?

by Administrator 5. March 2010 03:57

There are two non-gadolinium contrast agents approved for MRIs. However, the two are only approved for use of evaluating the liver.

Other approved contrast agents include iodinated contrast agents, which are commonly used for x-rays. Not only are these contrast agents not used for MRIs but they also have possible life-threatening side effects.

If you or anyone you know has questions about your MRI exams, contact the gadolinium lawyers of Williams Kherkher at 800-761-3187.
