Much of the research and development of this project will take place in the Wright Center which is located outside of OSU.  The center current has a 7 magnet Tesla MRI, and hopes that its research can develop an 8 Tesla magnet MRI.

Bayer is beginning to settle suits involving its contrasting agent Magnevist. 

The company has began negotiations in around 40 cases of individuals that have developed side effects and problems involving the use of the MRI image contrasting agent.  The settlements are only for cases in which a biopsy was completed and Magnevist was the only agent used. 

The current settlements are being done in a non-public manner.  The dollar figure of these settlements is not being released.

The gadolinium agents that are used for MRI scans can stay in the body for many hours after the initial injection.  Because of this,  it is recommended that mothers who recently gave birth do not breast feed their child if they received an injection of gadolinium within 2 days.

The gadolinium can have levels in the breast milk for the first few hours, and many hours after.   The agent needs to be properly filtered from the body before it would be considered safe to breast feed a baby.

Magnevist is one an MRI Contrasting Agent that contains gadolinium. Magnevist is produced by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals.

Magnevist now contains a warning label on the side of the prescription injection box.  The warning label identifies the risk between NSF and gadolinium and was put on the box within the last few years after the link between NSF and Magnevist became more clear.

The United States Food and Drug Administration,  had requested in 2007 that the boxes that the medical gadolinium come in to contain a warning.  The warning would have notified individuals with a failing liver of the problems that were beginning to be seen from the use of gadolinium.
